Sit Comfortably and Start with Deep Breaths
As noted earlier, you should get into a comfortable sitting position to be able to meditate without distractions. There are different meditations postures you can try to find out the one that works best for you. You can sit in a lotus pose with your legs crossed, lie down, walk, sit on a chair, etc.
Also, start your meditation session with a few deep breaths. Deep breaths send a message to the brain and trigger the relaxation response. As a result, you feel calm and relaxed. As you start the actual process of meditating, return your breath to its normal pace.
Try to keep your spine straight. Not only does it create mind and body alertness and supports proper breathing function, but it also allows for free energy flow. In the yoga tradition, there is the belief that the energy moves from the bottom of the spine to the top, piercing each energy center aka chakra along the way.
